The Next 100 Years
Thanks to your support, the Lighthouse has a future
We proudly announced the successful completion of the “Save the Light” campaign - a five-year fundraising and restoration campaign that addressed the urgently needed restoration work and transformed the lighthouse from a decaying structure into a world-class icon of our community.
We've now launched the “Next 100 Years” - a fundraising and programming campaign that seeks to ensure that the Lighthouse never falls back into a state of disrepair. The “Next 100 Years” envisions the Lighthouse as a “community asset” - an active beacon of education and community, which revives the functionality and relevance of the Lighthouse to “keep the light shining.”
We are missing a key component to make the “Next 100 Years” vision truly sustainable: a launch vessel to replace the expensive third-party charters and our aging workboats. Safety is paramount given the unique challenges inherent in providing access to an offshore lighthouse for the first time in its 120-year history, and need a vessel that can meet these rigorous specifications.
Launch “The Next 100 Years”
We are fundraising for the acquisition of a purpose-built Munson Boat with world-class capabilities and safety features to meet these unique challenges. Munson Boats is the pre-eminent builder of commercial-grade vessels and has built passenger boats for peer Lighthouse organizations and other research and educational institutions.
The aluminum vessel is Coast Guard-certified to transport 20 passengers to the Lighthouse from the Darien and Norwalk coastline. The vessel has a unique beach landing capability, enabling passenger pick-up from local beaches along public parks and clubs, which would enhance our ability to offer programming and share the Lighthouse with the community.
In addition to its world-class safety features and its unique beach landing and passenger transport capabilities, the vessel has capabilities to facilitate marine research and education, and to function as a multi-purpose workboat to support future restoration work – functioning as an adjacent “community asset” for the Lighthouse and the community.
Help Fund The Lighthouse Launch
We are asking for your support in meeting our fundraising goal to make this vision a reality. We are grateful for any level of support but are offering two recognition levels for major contributions.
Boat Name: $250,000 - (Limit 1)
Seat Name(s): $25,000/seat - (20 Seats Total)
